Plainville High School Offers American Sign Language Course

Students at Plainville High School have an additional elective course available this year, as an “American Sign Language 1” class has been added to the high school’s course selection options. Taught by Plainville resident and educator Rachel Posner, the course has been popular with high school students thus far.

PHS Welcomes Willow!

The field of animal therapy continues to expand and gain popularity as a healing modality, and Plainville High School is one of many schools, country-wide, that integrates a therapy dog within the high school building. In May, Plainville High School said goodbye to Duke, the school’s second therapy dog, who accompanied Physical Education and Health Teacher, Sarah Centore, in several classes over the past three years.

David Levenduski Named Assistant Superintendent For Plainville Community Schools

David Levenduski, currently Supervisor of Instruction and Learning for the Meriden, Connecticut school system, has been named Assistant Superintendent for Plainville Community Schools. Levenduski will replace Steven LePage, who was recently named Superintendent of the Plainville school district.

District Implements Student Guardian Safety System for School Busses

School busses in Plainville this fall will feature an enhanced safety measure, according to Superintendent of Schools, Steven LePage. The DATTCO busses servicing Plainville schools will now feature the Student Guardian automated stop arm enforcement system.

Learning continued over the summer through the 2019 RAMP (Reading And Math Power) Program housed at Linden Street School during the month of July. This year, 44 students in kindergarten through third grade from all three Plainville elementary schools attended this annual summer program.

Elementary School Students Participate in Summer Robotics And Engineering Camp

Thanks to a grant from the Jamie Garfield ’00 Grant Program through the Kingswood Oxford School, and the work of Kingswood Oxford student Ella Schwartz, a no-cost Robotics and Engineering Camp was offered to 20 elementary age Plainville students in June. The day camp, which ran from June 24-28 at the Middle School of Plainville provided the venue and opportunity for participants to work on engineering challenges and build robots to learn about communication and cooperation.

Local Groups Organize Back to School “Backpack Program” for Those in Need
