Director of Safety and Security Named for Plainville Community Schools

Plainville Police Department Support Services Sergeant Richard Marques has been named Director of Safety and Security for Plainville Community Schools, according to Superintendent of Schools, Steven LePage. He was selected through an extensive search and screening process conducted by a comprehensive committee that included Superintendent LePage, Plainville Chief of Police, Chris Vanghele, and several school district administrators.

New Director of Facilities Named for Plainville Community Schools

Michael Smith, former Vice President of Operations for CCARC, Inc., in New Britain, Connecticut, has been named Facilities Director for Plainville Community Schools, according to Superintendent of Schools, Steven LePage. Smith will replace former Facilities Director, Steve Busel, who retired in July after serving in that capacity for 18 years. He was selected through an extensive search process conducted by the school district.

Summer Math Challenge!

First grade students in the Plainville Community Schools Summer RAMP program recently completed the 2022 Commissioners Summer Math Challenge. In the "ice cream shop challenge" the students used picture graphs to solve real world problems about events that could happen in an ice cream shop.

Toffolon's Community Garden in Bloom!

Louis Toffolon Elementary School’s Community Garden is in full bloom this summer, thanks to the efforts of the school’s Garden Club. The garden project was created under the direction of Toffolon School’s Teacher of the Year, Rob Silliman. This past year, over 40 students participated with him in the school’s Garden Club. The children volunteered their time one morning each week, selecting the types of plants, planting seeds, caring for them indoors and transplanting them outside.

May Portrait Pioneer

The May Plainville Community Schools’ “Portrait Pioneer” award winners,  Plainville High School Assistant Principal Jennifer DeLorenzo and Plainville High School Library Information Teacher Deb Pikiell,  were recognized at the May 9th Plainville Board of Education meeting.  Jennifer and Deb were  nominated by Plainville High School Principal, Carl Johnson. This award was established to recognize those who exemplify and model the characteristics of the school district’s Portrait of the Graduate framework, which include being: Mindful, Resilient, Communicative, Innovative and Collaborative.
